Bayscapes improve the health of local streams and waterways by absorbing more stormwater than a conventional landscape. They stabilize soils and prevent erosion, and are designed to individual site characteristics, factoring in topography, drainage patterns and sun exposure. Bayscapes include plantings that are native to the Chesapeake Bay Region.
District of Columbia homeowners can participate in the RiverSmart Homes grant program for bayscape installation to reduce stormwater pollution on their properties. For more information please visit RiverSmart Homes
on the DC Department of the Environment website.
