We are a small family-run native plant nursery located in Indian Head, MD and Washington, DC. We grow plants with wild genetics and are working diligently to convert our stock to local ecotypes. Our nursery focuses on best environmental practices using organic and compost-based fertilizers and without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or growth hormones all in recycled pots.

Jeremy Tidd, Bona Terra owner, has been designing, maintaining, growing, and installing native plant gardens in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area for over 20 years. Jeremy founded Bona Terra, a sustainability focused micro business, in 2002 and began a nursery in 2011 to support his business. To date, his company has installed over 1,000 native rain gardens and conservation plantings, primarily using plants he grew himself.

In 2020, Bona Terra’s nursery opened to retail customers, and by 2022 its nursery offered the largest all-native plant inventory in the area now with over 80,000 individual plants and 170+ species. He also provides a trusted source of local-ecotype native seeds in the Washington, DC area.

Bona Terra launched its philanthropic Plant Grant initiative in 2023, which has distributed over 900,000 free native seedlings to 125+ grantees and 1,000+ community members.
One of Bona Terra’s mechanisms for distributing free seedlings to community members is through Free Seedling Giveaways at its nursery, during which Bona Terra staff and volunteers distribute thousands of free native seedlings to folks with time and space to grow native plants.
