Individual Plant Grant

Individual Plant Grant

Our ecosystems are in crisis and need your help by planting more native plants. Bona Terra is offering Plant Grants to individuals who are ready to start making a difference in their communities.

Choose your plan of action from the approved options below to bring more native plants to your community. You will be responsible for dividing and either directly planting them or potting them up to be given away for free to members of your community. Individuals may choose 2 community pot quarts of seedlings per pick up, and may receive more community pots when they email photos of their plantings to plantgrant@bonaterradc.com.

How to Receive an Individual Plant Grant

The intention of the Plant Grant is to create habitat, inform members of our communities about the importance and value of planting natives, and to make native plants more accessible in our communities.

This guide will give you a good idea of what you can expect to do after your receive your seeded quarts as well as step-by-step instructions for dividing your seedlings. This guide contains a lot of useful information, even if you’re an experienced gardener. There’s also a helpful video!
  2. Fill out an Individual Plant Grant Application Form and wait for an approval via email. .
  3. Receive your confirmation email with instructions on how to receive your seeded quarts. Please read it over carefully as there are multiple pick-up options.

Seeded quarts can be picked up at our nursery in Indian Head, MD (by appointment only) or at our office in Washington, DC (once a month, on the last Friday of each month). Your confirmation email will go over specific steps of each pick-up procedure and to receive the address of each location.

You can see which species of seeded quarts are currently available by viewing our Seedling Inventory. Different species grow in at different times, so please note that the inventory lists all of the species that will be available this year, and only those listed as available (those with numbers listed in the “Seeded Quarts Available” column) are currently available. See our Seedling Planning for Planting Schedule for a handy guide for approximately how and when you should request seeded quarts
